On Pricing "When do you start paying" refers to the threshold at which the listed free or trial plan stops working for a small business. Free tiers often hide caps on sends, automation, or branding that force an upgrade well before the headline subscriber limit.
On Contact Counting Mailchimp and Klaviyo bill on total contacts (subscribed + unsubscribed). Brevo bills on emails sent, not list size. The rest fall somewhere between. Always check the billing model before list growth, not after.
On Deliverability All ESPs listed run proprietary mail transfer agents on top of their own infrastructure (with Customer.io being the notable exception — it runs on configurable backends including Amazon SES). Shared IPs are standard; dedicated IPs are available for higher-volume senders, usually 100K+/month.
Disclaimer Pricing and feature thresholds verified May 2026 from each provider's documentation and third-party reviews. ESPs change pricing frequently — confirm on the provider's site before recommending to a client.
